Different Quarterback, Same Result: Bears Defeat Jets at Soldier Field

Kyle Monangai celebrates TD vs. Jets

All week long, the city of Chicago and the rest of the NFL world were trying to read between the lines to figure out who was starting at quarterback for the Bears. Who will it be, Case Keenum or Tyson Bagent… How about both! Classic, Ben Johnson proving each and every expert, analyst, and columnist wrong just for the sake of proving them wrong. However, it was Tyson Bagent’s day and he proved just how dominant this Ben Johnson offense truly can be. Although the Bears were a favorite coming into the game, this isn’t the same ole Jets team; this is a team that has been competitive so far this season and has hung around in games with strong offensive performances.

There were some analysts wondering if the quarterback situation would give Aaron Glenn the edge against his former counterpart from Detroit, but Vegas was right again. The Bears turned this Jets team back into the Jets of old. This game likely jolted fans across New York into memories of Adam Gase, Dowell Loggains, and Nathanial Hackett as the Bears forced the Jets to 0/7 on third down and held them to just 12 points.

The Bears offense didn’t slow down against the Jets with Tyson Bagent under center. They had 34 first downs which was more than offensive Jets plays (32) and outgained the Jets 492 yards to 157. Individually, the Bears had both more passing (260) and rushing (232) yards than the Jets had total yards. In the first, quarter, 2 Bear touchdowns were overturned which made the 26-12 feel much closer than it truly was. This effort felt like true domination, as the game was never in question and the Bears were playing at-will football. Three different quarterbacks in 4 games and Ben Johnson proves he can win no matter who is undercenter.

The post game disrespect for the Jets was on full display with Devin Bush calling this, “probably one of the easiest NFL games I’ve ever played in”. He also exclaimed, “I’m not sore at all” and “I actually got bored during the game”. Just goes to show how truly dominant this game was for Chicago.

This 3-1 start is the best for the Bears since 2020 when Nick Foles and Matt Nagy held the reigns in Chicago. Obviously, this Chicago Bears team is much different than those 2020 Bears and things are looking up. Headed into this season, the schedule looked daunting, and it felt as the Bears had no break from the hardships of the NFL season. Now, headed into Week 5, things look entirely different as the league is starting to take shape, and certain teams aren’t living up to the hype. The expectation is starting to change, the fans can see how good this team truly is and how far this defense has come.

GOOD: Rome Odunze

We, as Bears fans, have been waiting for a sign of life from Rome Odunze. When you draft a receiver in the Top 10, you expect big things and this offense needs Rome Odunze to step up to the moment. A year ago, he started the season hot with touchdowns in the first 6 games before he was sidelined by an injury, his production rapidly slowed down when he came back. This game was his first productive start since last season tallying 6 catches for 94 yards, including a 37 yard reception from Bagent. Hopefully, this is the start of a breakout season for Odunze.

BETTER: Dennis Allen

Dennis Allen take a bow! This defense was projected by many to be one of the worst units in football. They said we couldn’t recreate the turnovers, they said we couldn’t create pressure, after Week 1, they looked like swiss cheese. Dennis Allen is here to prove all the naysayers wrong. The Bears currently rank 3rd in total defense, 4th in scoring defense, 3rd in touchdowns allowed, 5th in defensive EPA per play, and 2nd in opposing 3rd down percentage. Over the last 3 games the Bears have allowed just 9.3 PPG and 217 YPG. With the current Bears offense, if the Bears defense keeps the trends going, this team can be unstoppable.

BEST: Kyle MONANGAI

The pride an joy of Chicago! Ben rode the hot hand following a D’Andre Swift fumble and gave Kyle Monangai his time to shine. Monangai went for 146 and not 1, but 2 Touchdowns! After 30 carries, Kyle is going to need to ice up before running it all over Lambeau Field next week. His performance is living proof that Ben Johnson loves getting to pick and choose which offensive toy he’s going to play with each week.

Another dominate win for the Chicago Bears. Now on to one of the most hate-fueled times of the year: PACKER HATE WEEK!

The Bears are favorites at Lambeau Field for the first time since 2006 and this week is extra special to all of us because in the words of DJ Moore, “It’s F the Packers always”

Bear Down

Packer Hate Week!

Go be 4-1.
